Back in December of 2023, the Parish of Bay Roberts/Coley’s Point started an outreach program to attract seniors in our communities to attend an afternoon of fellowship and socialization. This also included musical entertainment, a variety of games, and some special guests dropping by. This concept was derived from the “Set Sail” diocesan strategic plan. One of the goals of the plan is “deepening relationships.” We felt there was a need to create an opportunity for the seniors of our communities to come together and socialize, if only for a couple of hours. Many feel lonely and isolated since the COVID-19 pandemic, and even now 4 years later, the feelings of loneliness and isolation remain for some people. We have had 3 events thus far, with another one planned for late October, all of which have been successful. The smiles and appreciation we receive are so refreshing. We (the planning group) asked; “what can we do to make these events better for you?” Ninety percent of the responses were “keep doing what you are already doing.” They just love the fellowship and socialization.
