I’m not a zealous Facebook observer, but one night a while ago, I was searching through the weather channels as I was planning a short trip the next day. During that observation, I caught a glimpse of a 101-year-old man who was bragging that he could remember eighteen reigning Presidents of the United States in his lifetime.
I might not be in that person’s age category, but I can almost match his record regarding the number of priests that I’ve encountered while worshipping here at St. John the Evangelist in my more than 60 years as a parishioner, each one displaying his/her own individual delivery, which combined have intensified our belief and faith.
On June 7th, 2026, we had the pleasure and opportunity to welcome our present and new priest, Archdeacon Edward Keeping. On that Sunday, he preached from the pulpit, in our midst for the first time.
The emotional intensity of the spiritual message was overwhelming. The delivery was most distinct and audible throughout the church—displaying his own special gift of conveyance. After Holy Communion was served and Rev’d Lisa announced the closing hymn, the congregation was ushered downstairs to the peal of the organ.
At this juncture, the whole assembly received a personal introduction to Archdeacon Edward Keeping and his wife, Joyce. Then together, in his honour, we all mingled in conversation and fellowship while enjoying a delicious lunch prepared and served by the Anglican Church Women.
In the meantime, we look forward to the longevity of Archdeacon Keeping’s tenure here at St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail, CBS.
