]]> It was a busy but Spirit filled occasion when Bishop John Organ visited the Parish by the Sea on October 6th-7th, 2024, for Confirmation.

At 10:30 service, five of our young people were confirmed at St. John the Evangelist in Burgeo. Following a time of fellowship and a cup of tea, it was on to the ferry for a four hour trip to Francois.

Later in the evening, family and friends gathered at St. Simon and St. Jude Church to support three of our young people who were confirmed.

On Monday, October 7th, it was an early rise to get the Marine Voyager back to Burgeo, to catch the Gallipoli to Ramea. It was another Spirit filled service as three more young people gathered with family, friends and the congregation of St. Boniface Church for Confirmation.

A proud day for the new Lay Minister in the Church of the Transfiguration, Grey River, Donna Peddle. It was a wonderful moment when Bishop Organ presented her with her Lay Minster’s certificate. Her father, Norman Rose, had been a long time Lay Minister in Grey River. She felt honoured to be able to wear his blue scarf, cassock, and surplice.

]]> On a beautiful, clear Sunday morning the bell rang out from the Church of the Transfiguration in Grey River to welcome all to an historic occasion in the life of the Church and the community.  The Rt. Rev’d John Organ was in attendance for the ordination to the diaconate of Cavalle Young and Annie Rose. Not only was it the first ordination in the community, but it was the first ordination of a resident from Grey River.

Both Annie and Cavalle live and work in this picturesque community located on the Southwest Coast of NL. Over the years, they have worked together to establish strong Sunday school and confirmation groups, with young people who are always ready and willing to take part in worship. Cavalle and Annie’s dedication and commitment to God and the Church is shown through their ministry with these youth who are also always eager to participate in Church activities within the community which promote kindness and sharing.

In the reflection he gave at the ordination, Archdeacon David Taylor reminded Annie, Cavalle, and all of us that: “We are called to do our best to serve Christ by our every contribution even to the smallest and seemingly least significant actions that we do. For it’s by our combined works and efforts that God will extend his reach and work ever more gloriously among his people!”

As a parish, and as a diocese, we uphold Cavalle and Annie in their ministry as they continue on this journey, never knowing where God’s call will lead them, but knowing that he will be their guide!

]]> On October 16th, 2022, St. Simon and St. Jude Church in Francois celebrated its 100th anniversary. A supper and dance were held on Saturday night, and a service of celebration was held on Sunday afternoon. As we worshipped, we gave thanks to God for the faith, the dedication, and the commitment of all those who 100 years ago took on the task of establishing the church in its present location, overlooking the community.

This beautiful church has long been a focal point as one enters into Francois. One hundred years later, the people of the community still take pride in their church which is a very warm and inviting place.  As we remembered the past, we gave thanks for the present, and we are looking to the future with hope and trust in God, who promises to be with us wherever we are and through all the events in our lives. No matter what the future holds for us, God is with us!
