Heartwarming Mother’s Day Tea

The Parish of Bonne Bay North Fellowship Group hosted a Mother’s Day Tea Party, in celebration of mothers both past and present, on Saturday May 10th. There were 106 people in attendance, all dressed for an afternoon tea. It was a wonderful event with poems, skits, recitations, prize draws, stories, music, and even a few dances.

Everyone enjoyed a cup of tea served in beautiful tea cups, and an abundance of delicious sandwiches, cakes, loaves, cookies, squares, fresh fruit, and much more! A Mother’s Day cake was cut by two dedicated Fellowship Group members: 91 year old Doris Pittman, and 87 year old Annie Shears. It was a most enjoyable afternoon!

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Rocky Harbour

On Monday, March 17th, St. Matthew’s in Rocky Harbour hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day supper of stews, pot luck dishes, and delicious desserts. It was a fantastic meal and great fellowship with over 70 people in attendance.

Flower Service in Rocky Harbour Draws Big Crowd

It was a beautiful, warm, sunny Sunday on August 4th, and a large crowd attended the annual Flower Service at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery in Rocky Harbour. It’s estimated that approximately 100 people were in attendance. It has been determined to be the largest number that we’ve had for many years!

More than 60 people attended the St. Matthew’s (Rocky Harbour) annual St. Patrick’s Day pot luck supper of stews, soups, and other dishes. There were also delicious desserts!

Prayer Quilts For Those Recovering From Addictions

On Sunday March 19th, 2024, during the morning service at Gros Morne Community Church in Rocky Harbour, the Parish of Bonne Bay North Prayer Quilt Group donated 10 Prayer Quilts to The Haven of Rest Men’s Addiction and Recovery Centre located in Deer Lake.

During Sunday mornings service, Pastor George Coles shared a presentation on The Haven of Rest. Over $600 was collected for The Haven as they work toward sustaining a 12-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation residency on the West Coast.

The Rev’d Wilhelmena Green and a committee of several ladies have organized fun-filled fellowship nights for each Monday from last October until April 2023.

Crafts, games, funny stories, recitals, jokes, skits, and of course a lunch and cup of tea, made each night extremely enjoyable. We laughed until our bellies hurt!

Everyone is looking forward to getting back together for more fun-filled fellowship nights in October!

10TH Anniversary of Prayer Quilt Group in Bonne Bay North

March 5th, 2023 was the 10th Anniversary of the Parish of Bonne Bay North’s Prayer Quilt Group! Over the 10 year period, the group has given out more than 580 prayer quilts to the sick. Congratulations to the most amazing, talented, wonderful group of ladies!

Shrove Tuesday in Rocky Harbour

St. Matthew’s Church, Rocky Harbour, hosted a delicious Shrove Tuesday supper of baked beans, baloney, and pancakes, along with dessert, tea, and coffee at the church hall. More than 50 people were able to attend, and a wonderful evening of food and fellowship was had by all.

Christmas in Rocky Harbour

During the 5 o’clock Christmas Eve service at St. Matthew’s Church in Rocky Harbour, Jenna Pittman (from Whitby Ontario, who was visiting her grandparents in Rocky Harbour for Christmas), came to church with her grandparents to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Jenna went to the front of the church, holding baby Jesus, while everyone sang the carol “Away In A Manger,” and gently placed him in his crib as part of the nativity scene.

Thanksgiving Cold Plate in Rocky Harbour

It was a little past Thanksgiving, but St. Matthew’s, Rocky Harbour, did get its Thanksgiving dinner in on Thursday, November 3rd with 54 people enjoying a tasty cold plate dinner, delicious desserts, tea, and coffee. Plus there were approximately 40 takeouts of cold plates. In addition we had live music, cutting of a birthday cake for two of the musicians—Colleen Rose and her brother Horace Welsh. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship.
